Romain Grosjean is confident that if he continues to perform at his current level he will remain at Lotus next season.

The Frenchman signed a one-year deal with the former Renault outfit and having failed to shine during his first stint in F1 many expected him to struggle.

However, despite a few constly errors Grosjean has performed well, at times over shadowing team-mate and former World Champion Kimi Raikkonen. Of the races he has completed, Grosjean has only once finished outside of the top six, collecting two podium finishes.

Team principal Eric Boullier has hinted that he is happy with his driver pairing and Grosjean is upbeat about his chances of securing a new contract.

“Hopefully, if all goes well, I will be with the team next season,” he told a French motorsport website f1i. “This will allow me to build up this year and compete in 2013 on a better footing.

“We already know what has worked and what has not, so this will give us more time to do things perfectly. I hope I will be retained. If I continue in this way, I think I have a good chance.”
