Grosjean: Renault return ‘would be lovely’

Romain Grosjean has welcomed the idea of returning to Renault “one day” – when they are capable of mounting a World Championship bid.

The Frenchman made his Formula 1 debut for the team back in 2009 before racing under the Lotus moniker for five seasons.

Grosjean has been at Haas since 2016 and will remain there next season, but he would interested in returning to the Enstone-based team if they can deliver a potential World Championship-winning car.

“I haven’t talked with Renault,” Grosjean told the official Formula 1 website.

“But going back to Renault one day would be lovely, but it should be the time when we really could be world champions together.

“That would be a superb situation, but right now it is a bit premature.”

Grosjean was then asked about his World Championship hopes and how that surely means he would have to leave Haas.

He replied: “Yes, I want to be world champion – that is why I am racing. And that is why I’m getting frustrated.

“If I cannot fight high enough at the front I get frustrated, because I love winning. To think that my last win was in 2011 – that is six years ago. That really hurts. But since then I’ve never had the car to win.”
