Romain Grosjean will start Sunday’s Hungarian GP third on the grid despite his E21 failing a floor test.
In the wake of Saturday’s qualifying at the Hungaroring, Grosjean’s car went through an FIA inspection.
The front floor of the car was found to deflect more than the permitted 5mm.
As a result of the technical breach, Lotus were called before the stewards to explain the situation.
The team blamed damage from a kerb at Turn 11 during Q2 and Grosjean was cleared.
“It is the conclusion of the stewards that the failure of this part was due to the impact in Q2 and subsequently caused the car to fail to meet the requirements of Article 3.17.5,” the Stewards’ decision read.
“Accordingly this is deemed to be a case of accidental damage, not a case of non-compliance.”
