Four-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton took to Twitter on Boxing Day to apologise after he came under fire for chastising his young nephew for wearing a princess dress.

It all started with a bit of Christmas Day fun when he posted a Snapchat video, which has since been deleted, with his nephew to his 5.7 million followers.

In the video the F1 driver says: “I’m so sad right now. Look at my nephew.”

He then turns to the child and asks: “Why are you wearing a princess dress? Is this what you got for Christmas?”

When the reply is yes, Hamilton responds: “Why did you ask for a princess dress for Christmas? Boys don’t wear princess dresses!”

While Hamilton thought he was having a bit of fun, the video was met with outrage and his social media accounts were flooded by criticism.

Hamilton, though, apologised in a series of Tweets on Boxing Day.
