Lewis Hamilton may be lining up behind his team-mate in Monaco, however, the Brit says he is “chuffed” to even be on the front row.

While Nico Rosberg dominated this weekend’s practice sessions around the streets of Monte Carlo, Hamilton struggled to match his team-mate’s pace.

“I’ve been struggling all weekend and my pace has sucked all week,” the 28-year-old stated.

“I’ve been struggling with the car, to be honest, which is the first time I have had that experience here since 2005.

“Every year, I’ve been on it and didn’t have problems with confidence, but this weekend has been difficult.”

The Brit, though, found some good pace in qualifying where he was one of just three drivers to break into the 1:13s on the drying track.

Clocking a 1:13.967, Hamilton finished second quickest on Saturday, just 0.091s behind his Mercedes team-mate, securing the team’s second front row lock-out.

“I’m just happy to be here and able to lock-out the front row for the team,” he said.

“It was a massive improvement from me compared to all the other sessions so I’m chuffed.”
