A dejected Lewis Hamilton is refusing to blame Adrian Sutil for failing to make it into Q3 for the Italian Grand Prix.

While normally when a driver is impeded they say the transgressor drove like an “idiot”, this Saturday Hamilton is saying that of his own driver.

“Drove like an idiot, that’s the worst I’ve driven in a long time,” said the Brit, who qualified P12.

“I just didn’t drive well. There’s not really much more to say.

“I was quick in Q1 and then I don’t know…”

Asked whether Sutil had impeded him, the Mercedes driver stated that even though his former friend had, it made no difference.

“Yeah,” he said, “but it doesn’t matter I should have done it the previous lap.”

Hamilton was also not overly confident about making amends come Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix.

“I’ll do whatever I can from where I am but it is going to be tough.”
