Lewis Hamilton hopes to follow in the footsteps of Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg by negotiating his own contract with his team.

It was confirmed in Austin over the weekend that Hamilton won’t renew terms with Simon Fuller’s XIX Management Company, who negotiated his move from McLaren to Mercedes.

The 29-year-old’s Merc deal is set to expire at the end of next year, but he is set to enter into talks with the Brackley squad once the 2014 campaign comes to an end and it is likely that he will be doing the negotiations himself.

“I’m quite comfortable doing it myself,” he told The Telegraph. “Nico [Rosberg] did his himself, Sebastian [Vettel] did his himself, and there’s no reason I couldn’t do it myself.

“Whether or not I will, I haven’t decided myself. I hope to see a long future with this team. Nothing needs to be changed too much.”
