Honda have refuted Fernando Alonso’s claim that there was an issue with his engine at Spa, revealing that nothing showed in the data.
The double World Champion had a wretched Sunday at Spa as he dropped from seventh on the opening lap to 10th, which he declared “embarrassing.”
Falling even further down the order he retired the car after reporting an “engine problem.”
However, Honda say there was nothing wrong with the Spaniard’s power unit.
Honda F1 engine chief Yusuke Hasegawa said: “After starting brilliantly, he then had a tough race overall.
“He radioed in with what he thought was a problem with the car, and although there was nothing showing in the data, we decided to stop the car as a precaution.”
