HRT team boss Luis Perez-Sala says his outfit will not rush into announcing their second 2012 driver as it is not an “urgent” decision.
HRT is one of only two teams who have yet to confirm their complete 2012 driver line-up, the other being Williams.
But, like Williams, HRT also only has one seat still available as already the backmarker outfit has confirmed Pedro de la Rosa.
As for who will be partner the Spaniard, that has yet to be decided with Tonio Liuzzi believed to be the favourite – at least up until Wednesday’s announcement that Toro Rosso had parted ways with Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari.
For now, though, HRT’s new team boss is not giving any clues as to who he may sign.
“We are in advanced talks with several drivers but we can’t anticipate anything yet,” he said.
“It’s a decision we surely won’t make until the start of next year because, at this stage, who will be the team’s second driver for next season is perhaps the least urgent one right now.”
As for de la Rosa, the Spaniard is set to once again give up his McLaren test driver role for the opportunity to race.
“It makes me very happy that Pedro has trusted so much in us and I hope that we can return his trust with results,” said Perez-Sala. “As our relationship grows I hope that he feels proud to have made this decision.”
