A Health and Safety Executive has confirmed that any possible links between Maria de Villota’s death and her testing injury will be examined.
On Friday morning news broke that the former Marussia test driver was found dead in a hotel in Spain.
The 33-year-old’s death has been put down to “natural death” while some reports in Spain claim she died of a heart-attack.
However, whether her death was linked to the severe injuries she suffered last July remains to be seen.
De Villota suffered major to her face and skull as well as losing her right eye.
An HSE spokeswoman has revealed that an investigation will be launched into the matter.
She told PA Sport: “We don’t know if there is a link between her injuries and her subsequent death but we would expect to be kept informed of any new evidence.”
