Nico Hulkenberg believes he is “ready” to step into a team like Ferrari having gained experienced in the midfield battle.

The German was linked to the Scuderia last season, however, instead of taking on someone new, Ferrari opted to retain Felipe Massa for another season.

Hulkenberg then made the move to Sauber with many surmising that was done with the aim of alinging himself with Ferrari, who supply engines to Sauber.

Months later the 26-yea-old is again being touted as a possible replacement to Massa. And this time he says he’s ready.

“I would feel ready and I do feel ready,” Hulkenberg told Sky Sports News when asked if he felt ‘equipped’ to move up the grid.

“It’s my third year, and I feel I have gained quite a bit of experience.

“There is always room for improvement, there are still things I learn every weekend. You always get better, and next year is a new game because of the new regulations, but I think I am off for a challenge like that.”

Ferrari, however, are not the only team on the German’s radar as he is looking at all his options.

“I wouldn’t name it the ultimate drive but obviously it is a big team with a big history,” he said of Ferrari.

“I wouldn’t exclude anyone at this point, we are talking to different teams and evaluating all the options, and when the time is right we will decide what we think is best for my future.”

Asked when he may have a decision on his future, Hulkenberg added: “Ideally I’d like to have it done by September, end of September.”
