Narain Karthikeyan believes he will qualify for this weekend’s Malaysian GP after missing out in Australia.

Hispania Racing arrived in Melbourne two weeks ago on the back foot, having failed to put in a single lap in their 2011 car during pre-season testing.

And as they also only managed one lap in Friday’s practices, the team was sorely disadvantaged on Saturday with both drivers failing to qualify within the 107 percent rule.

But despite their dismal start to the campaign, Karthikeyan reckons his team can put in a better performance this weekend in Malaysia, starting with making the grid.

“It was very disappointing not to make the grid in Melbourne, but it will be another thing altogether in Malaysia,” the Indian driver told AFP.

“I think we will be in better shape and have a chance to qualify – and I think there will be a lot of support too.”
