Narain Karthikeyan is feeling more confident of a more positive weekend in Malaysia after getting with 107 percent of the P1 time on Friday.

This season, F1 has reintroduced the 107 percent qualifying rule with both Hispania Racing drivers falling foul of it in Australia.

However, armed with their new 2011-spec front wing, Karthikeyan managed to get within 107 percent of Mark Webber’s fastest time in Friday’s practice at Sepang.

And the Indian driver is feeling a lot happier about his prospects having managed that feat.

He said on Twitter: “Feels good to get some running. Lot of work to be done, but feel positive for qualifying! Glad to be within the 107 percent.”

However, his day wasn’t without problems as his car broke down in Friday’s first practice with plumes of smoke pouring from the rear.
