Narain Karthikeyan admits that expecting more than just a finish in Sunday’s Indian GP is an unrealistic goal for his home race.
Karthikeyan will be the only Indian driver on the grid at this weekend’s inaugural race at the Buddh International Circuit after HRT opted to put him back in the car.
However, Karthikeyan has anything but lofty expectations for his home race.
“The realistic thing with our car is possibly finish the race with the team-mate,” said the Indian driver. “If you do that I think at the moment, you can’t expect much more.”
But while he’s not expecting points come Sunday, the HRT driver does believe he can put on a good showing for the many Indian fans as they experience their first F1 race.
“It’s a very historic and symbolic moment that an Indian driver is on the grid. Of course there’s a lot of people following Formula One for a long time and there’ll be a lot of fans here.
“It’ll be hard to explain but it is what it is. I want to enjoy the weekend and have a lot of fun and try to do the best I can do.”
