‘Kubica assisting Merc development’

Toto Wolff reckons running Robert Kubica in the Mercedes simulator has proven to be a smart move as both parties are gaining from it.

Last month it was revealed that Kubica had spent time in the Mercedes simulator as the Pole, who was seriously injured in a rally crash in February 2011, works towards a possible comeback to Formula One.

Since that first run, Kubica has had several sessions at Merc’s Brackley base with executive director Wolff saying it has been a win-win situation.

“Robert is concentrating on rallying, that is his main task,” Wolff told Autosport. “But everybody knows he is very talented and experienced.

“What we are trying to do with him is give him time in the simulator and you both gain by having him in the simulator.

“He is getting used to driving the F1 car again and we are benefiting from his expertise. It helps the team and it helps him.”
