Kvyat: Back where we should be

Daniil Kvyat was a happy man on Saturday after Toro Rosso enjoyed a successful qualifying session ahead of Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix.

Kvyat and teammate Carlos Sainz Jr qualified in seventh and sixth places on the grid, respectively and the Russian was obviously pleased following one of the team’s best performances of the year so far.

His feat was even more impressive given he only had one chance because of the limited number of supersoft tyres he had left.

“A strong day today,” said Kvyat. “That last lap felt pretty good and, even if I only had one set of new Ultrasofts left for Q3, we delivered a solid performance and we can be pleased with a P7.”

Sainz secured sixth place on the grid with a time of 1:44.197, while Kvyat was just two-tenths of a second behind on 1:44.469.

He added that it was good to back where he thought the team deserved.

“It’s always pleasing when the car is at its best on the last lap. It’s encouraging to see that we are back where we should be, showing that we are competitive here, and, fingers crossed, tomorrow we can have a good race!”

“It will be a very long one, where anything can happen, but we just need to keep our head down, be patient and take any chance that comes our way,” he added.

“I feel fine, we are well positioned so now we just need to maximize what we achieved today!”
