Daniil Kvyat has urged caution after Toro Rosso took the fight to Ferrari and Red Bull in Thursday’s practice in Monaco.
The Russian racer showed good place on the supersoft tyres around the streets of Monte Carlo on Thursday morning.
He followed that up with a P4 in the second practice.
Swapping to the ultrasoft tyres, Kvyat clocked a 1:13.331 to finish 0.611s shy of Sebastian Vettel’s pace-setting time. Carlos Sainz was fifth.
“Many things should happen for us to be there, so let’s not get overexcited,” Kvyat cautioned.
“[There’s] lot of work to be done, the car seems good, but as we know we have to be extremely focused to stay in this comfortable window.
“There are no expectations, like today we just did our job, we tried to put the car in a most comfortable window as possible and it worked well.
“I don’t think we need to be clever or anything.”
