Lauda: New Mercedes car will suit Bottas

Mercedes' non-executive chairman Niki Lauda is hopeful the new car for the 2018 season will bring out the best in Valtteri Bottas.

The Finn recently admitted himself that his confidence had taken a blow and went through a slump with poor performances in Malaysia, Japan and the US.

But Bottas returned to the podium in Mexico City and Lauda believes that can become a regular occurence again next year with a car that suits his style.

"At the start, the car was suitable for both drivers," Lauda told C More.

"But through development it became more suitable for Lewis's driving style.

"The reason for what happened is more our fault than Valtteri's.

"The car for the coming season will suit not only Lewis' but also Valtteri's driving style."

Bottas will find himself in a familiar situation next year, looking to put in the performances that will earn him a new Mercedes deal as his current contract expires at the end of the 2018 campaign.
