Eric Boullier says it is just a matter of time before Lotus take up their option on Romain Grosjean for next season.

The Frenchman was undoubtedly the star of Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix as he challenged the Red Bulls throughout the 53 laps.

Grosjean took the lead with a blistering start, however, when all was said and done he was third having lost out to Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.

His drive to his fourth podium finish of the season impressed many in the paddock and looks set to be the deciding factor in securing a new Lotus deal.

“I need to get the written permission of my board but then we’ll see,” revealed team boss Boullier.

“Romain already has a contract with us for next year. He just has options to be taken up, so we have to do it in a few days I think.”

Pressed on a deadline, the Frenchman stated it would be “a couple of weeks.”
