Magnussen vows not to change his style

Kevin Magnussen has defended his driving, adamant he won’t change his approach when the stewards believe he is within the rules.

Magnussen has been criticised by several drivers during this year’s championship, most recently Nico Hulkenberg and Fernando Alonso.

While Hulkenberg’s complaints after Hungarian GP earned him a “suck my balls” reply from Magnussen, Alonso called the Haas driver an “idiot” in Malaysia.

He added: “For his driving, we more or less agree with the other drivers, it’s 19-1.”

But whether his rivals are happy with his driving is irrelevant to Magnussen.

“I expect anyone to make it as hard as possible,” he told reporters at the Japanese GP.

“Everyone is maxed out on trying to make it as hard as possible for each other.

“What matters to me is what the stewards think.

“I know that I’m pushing hard and that’s my intention. If it’s fine for the stewards then it’s fine.

“It’s pretty simple. We are not in a position to just drive into the points.

“We need to fight and we need to fight hard to stay in the points if we find ourselves there.”
