Pastor Maldonado is convinced that Williams will improve next year following their troubled 2011 campaign.

The English squad are coming off their worst-ever season after they finished ninth in the Constructors’ Championship. Maldonado and team-mate Rubens Barrichello could only muster five points between them in 19 races.

Williams, though, are determined to turn things around next year and they have already made several changes to technical department, and the 26-year-old Maldonado hopes they will be able to fight for points more often in 2012.

“I trust the team because it is impossible to be worse than this year,” he told Brazil’s TotalRace.com.

“I’m sure we will improve, we have worked hard to grow as a team. I hope we have a better car, one that is more competitive so that we can always fight for points and higher positions.”

With Williams struggling at the wrong end of the grid, Maldonado was always going to be up against it in his debut season and his best finish was a 10th place at the Belgian Grand Prix.

“I believe that was the worst position for a rookie, when nothing worked, especially in the first year, you have to learn many things,” he said.

“Nevertheless, I defended myself well, even against Rubens.”

He added: “It certainly was a year of learning. I adapted very quickly and I felt really good within the team, which is very good.”
