Roberto Merhi is adamant the door to Formula 1 has not closed, revealing there are a "couple of things" that he is keeping an eye on.
Last season the Spaniard raced for the Manor team while also contesting the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.
But while his debut season in F1 yielded no points, his best result was a P12 at Silverstone, Merhi was on the podium in Hungary in Formula Renault.
The 24-year-old is keen to remain with Manor this season or even swap to another team as a test driver.
But for now he is still waiting.
"It is not closed, not at all," he told El Confidencial.
"There are a couple of things that are being watched. But there is still nothing concrete."
In the meantime Merhi is training to ensure that he's physically ready should he get a call up.
He added: "I have been swimming, running, cycling. In February I will do some karting."
