Mick Schumacher launches F4 career

All eyes will be on the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben this weekend as Mick Schumacher's Formula 4 career gets underway in Germany.

The 16-year-old son of seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher has signed with Van Amersfoort Racing team to contest Europe's ADAC Formula 4.

Despite showing impressive pace in Friday's practices, he will line-up 19th on the 38-strong grid for Saturday's opening race while on Sunday there are two events.

And although the family name carries with it a great deal of expectation, managing director Rob Niessink believes the "talent" and "intelligence" are there.

"We are all pleased with how things are going. Mick makes few errors," Niessink told German daily Bild.

"The talent is there, the preparation is there, the intelligence is there.

"We are proud to have a big name race for us, but the name alone won't bring us any points. We'll all have to work hard for those."

Schumacher will partner Harrison Newey, son of F1 design guru Adrian Newey.
