Robert Kubica’s hand surgeon revealed that the Pole is already driving a road car and they hope to see him behind the wheel of an F1 soon…
Just days after Robert Kubica’s doctor claimed he is a “few more months” away from making a return to F1, his hand surgeon says they are already thinking about getting him back into an F1 car.
Dr Riccardo Ceccarelli admitted last week that the Renault driver is unlikely to return to F1 soon, saying: “Our goal is to get him back in F1. But he will still need a few more months of rehabilitation.
“The cuts were so bad that many colleagues and specialists had ruled out a return to the wheel for Robert.”
Fast forward a few days and Dr Igor Rossello, the man who operated on his injured hand, revealed that Kubica is already driving a road car and they hope to see him behind the wheel of an F1 car as soon as possible.
“We can now think about getting him back as soon as possible into a car,” he told the Polish radio station Trojka. “Sorry, into a racing car, because he is already in a road car. His recovery is a miracle but the unknown thing is whether he will be able to be as fast.
“We still have to do a small intervention for improving the mobility of his wrist, as with this type of accident the hand is never as flexible as it was before. Then it will take a lot of exercise.
“But he will be able to drive his Formula One car again and press all the buttons – we’re talking about a racing driver, not a pianist.”
