Felipe Massa could sit out the bulk of Friday’s second practice for the Belgian Grand Prix after a heavy crash in the morning damaged his chassis.
The Brazilian crashed in FP1 when he took too much kerb on entry to Malmedy and his Williams snapped out as a result.
Massa hit the barrier hard, causing significant damage to the left side of his FW40.
Once the car was returned to the pits, Williams discovered that Massa will need to run the spare chassis meaning he may miss the bulk of FP2.
“We are having to change the chassis,” said a team spokesperson.
“It’s not a short job but they are working as quickly as possible.”
