Norris: Hopefully the first of many

Lando Norris caught the attention of the Formula 1 paddock on Wednesday as he finished second quickest in testing.

The 17-year-old climbed into the cockpit of the MCL32 for Day Two of the Hungarian test.

He covered 91 laps on the day and posted a best time of 1:17.385, quicker than Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne’s qualifying times from Saturday.

Norris’ best, though, was set on the ultrasoft Pirellis, a tyre that wasn’t available to the F1 drivers during the course of the Hungarian GP weekend.

“It’s been a really good day – and a very productive one for all of us,” said Norris.

“I managed to get through all the tests that the team asked me to complete, and everything went well.

“Getting used to the car was a bit of a challenge at first, but by the end of the day I felt very comfortable.

“I got a lot of laps under my belt and I really enjoyed the experience.

“I want to say a big thanks to the team for giving me this opportunity. Hopefully it will be the first of many!”
