Lando Norris is expected to be named as McLaren’s official third driver for next year’s championship, replacing Jenson Button.

Although just 17 years of age, the 2017 European Formula 3 Champion was linked to Button’s role after impressing McLaren during the post-Hungarian test.

This led to racing director Eric Boullier acknowledging that the Brit “could” replace Button come 2018.

According to Press Association, it is a done deal.

PA is reporting that Norris will be confirmed by McLaren at the Brazilian Grand Prix before taking part in a two-day Pirelli test in the McLaren MCL32.

McLaren are remaining hush on the pending announcement.

A spokesperson for the team told PA Sport: “The team is not in a position to confirm anything at this time.”
