Daniel Ricciardo will reportedly be using the old-spec Renault engine in Abu Dhabi after the upgrade failed to deliver an improved performance in Brazil.
Last time out at Interlagos Ricciardo race the latest Renault upgrade.
The French manufacturer used 11 of their 12 engine development tokens but the changes did not yield the expected improvement.
Delivering his verdict after qualifying in Brazil Ricciardo said: "We have seen it hasn't really given us anything, so back to the drawing board for Renault."
And in the mean time the Aussie will revert to an old-spec engine for Sunday's season-ending Abu Dhabi GP.
The Red Bull racer will not be penalised as he is expected to run an engine that has already been used.
