Palmer relaxed over 2017 drive

After admitting he hasn’t started 2017 contract negotiations with Renault, Jolyon Palmer has said that he is quite relaxed about his future in F1.

In his debut F1 season, Palmer has scored no points in the first half of the season, with his highest finish being P11 at the opening race in Australia.

With development drivers Esteban Ocon and Sergey Sirotkin circling around for a drive in 2017, it has been suggested that one of them will replace either Palmer or his teammate Kevin Magnussen.

However, the GP2 Champion thinks it’s still too early to chat about possible moves regarding drivers next year.

“I still think it’s early for the team,” the Brit explained.

“I don’t think there’s anyone here thinking about drivers for next year. Obviously I’m keen to stay on, I’m keen to show what I can do and in every race try and prove myself to stay on.

“I think there’s no rush, we’ve got a lot to sort out before next year anyway so I’m happy to wait for the moment, as and when, maybe over the summer break, as and when really it’s up to the boss.

“I know there are two available seats. I feel fine, I’m driving pretty well at the moment, pretty much everyone in the team can see that as well.

“Every weekend that goes I’m getting stronger and stronger so I feel OK for the moment.”
