Palmer: The pace is just gone

Jolyon Palmer is hoping that the data from his car will explain his poor showing in Saturday’s qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.

While Palmer had hoped for a good result around the Circuit de Catalunya, he instead qualified P17 for round five of the championship.

His 1:22.401 was a tenth shy of earning him a Q2 berth.

And Palmer has no idea what went wrong.

“To be honest I don’t know,” he said. “The pace is just gone.

“I was happy yesterday, feeling good for this weekend but now the pace is gone.

“I’m quite confused.

“I didn’t feel good in the car, didn’t do a horrendous lap but didn’t have the pace.

“I don’t know, we’ll look and see what we can do.

“Somewhere in the data there’ll be an explanation as this is a bit strange.”
