Force India driver Sergio Perez has revealed that they are baffled at the pace they are showing in Baku after he qualified in P2 ahead of the European Grand Prix.
Perez and his teammate Nico Hulkenberg were clocking in impressive pace the entire weekend. The German however failed to make it out of Q2 after a disrupted session.
Though Perez qualified in P2, the Mexican will start in P7 at tomorrow’s race after receiving a five-place grid penalty for a changed gear box following his crash in FP3.
“We struggled to understand what is that makes us so competitive,” said Perez.
“I think we were expecting ourselves to be strong around here, but not this good and to come away with P2 on this track…. It’s so easy to make a mistake, you can hit a wall and lose the car.
“I am pleased with the result but with the penalty tomorrow it is a bit of a shame.
“This is a track where you can overtake and you can have a good race. It will be good to enjoy the race as there will be a lot happening, a lot of safety cars.
“I am still angry from the mistake from this morning but very happy now, it is a mix of feelings for me today.
“After a crash you lose some confidence and to get back and get back in the rhythm again was hard.”
