Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Pirelli revealed the tyre choices that were made by the 22 drivers on the grid.
In previous seasons, Pirelli selected a choice of two compounds for the drivers. However this in 2016 season racers will now be able to have three compounds to choose from, with 13 sets of dry-weather tyres available throughout a race weekend.
Interestingly, Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen all chose the exact same tyres while reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton went a different route and sacrificed a medium compound for a soft.
Force India Chief Andy Stevenson predicted that most teams will be testing out the new strategy and then once they have built up some experience they will start exploring different paths.
“In the first four races there are no differences between Nico (Hulkenberg) and Sergio (Perez),” he told inautonews.com.
“With a little more experience, and depending on the track and the tyres offered, we may operate the drivers more individually in future."
