Winter Testing concludes with Ferrari fastest

Ferrari have ended winter testing as the fastest team on all four compounds, yet their final session was hampered after Kimi Raikkonen broke down on track.

The Finn, who set tongues wagging on Friday morning after becoming the first driver to break into the 1:18s barrier at the Circuit de Catalunya, was deep into a race simulation programme before his stoppage prompted the red flags to wave.

The SF70H did emerge again, though, with 15 minutes remaining and Ferrari will be heading to Australia as the fastest team on each compound, on paper at least:

Supersofts: Kimi Raikkonen, Day Eight, 1:18.634

Ultrasofts: Sebastian Vettel, Day Seven, 1:19.024

Softs: Kimi Raikkonen, Day Eight, 1:19.267

Mediums: Sebastian Vettel, Day Three, 1:21.609

Red Bull's Max Verstappen finished the day in P2, but the RB13 spent a lot of time in the garage once again because of a turbo issue.

Junior team Toro Rosso completed the top three, with Carlos Sainz Jr racking up over a century of laps in the process.

Mercedes duo Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton finished P4 and P5 respectively as the W08 surpassed the 5,000km mark within the final hour of testing.

Elsewhere, Fernando Alonso, who suffered two more breakdowns in the MCL32, finished with a 1:21.389 – the Spaniard's best of the test – albeit on supersofts.

There was very sad news away from the track, with the legendary John Surtees – the only person to win world titles on both two and four wheels – passing away at the age of 83.
