Raikkonen disappointed at medium compounds in Mexico

After the Mexican Grand Prix concluded, Kimi Raikkonen admitted that he struggled for pace after he switched onto the medium compounds for a long stint on the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Raikkonen started the Grand Prix sixth and actually moved up the grid when Ferrari’s rivals on the supersofts swapped them out.

As the race progressed, the Finn put on a fresh set of mediums and then came in again for a set of used ones, which resulted in Nico Hulkenberg claiming his P6 position.

However, he did manage to overtake the German towards the end of the race.

“My start was not too bad and we were running quite okay,” said the 2007 World Champion.

“After the first pit stop, though, I struggled to get any good grip with the Mediums.

“We thought maybe we should try and see if we could go back on track with a new set of the same tyres: but to be honest I had no better grip at the rear.

“It was the first time I was running with these tyres, maybe it’s just how the tyres are.

“Afterwards it’s easy to say that probably it was not the right thing to do, but I’m happy that we tried.”
