Red Bull, McLaren go aggressive for Spa

Red Bull and McLaren have gone ultra aggressive in their tyre choice for the Belgian Grand Prix while title rivals Ferrari and Mercedes have gone more conservative.

This season Pirelli will take their three softest compounds to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit; the soft, supersoft and ultrasofts.

Red Bull and McLaren are heavily favouring the latter with nine sets for each driver with just one soft set for Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen and Stoffel Vandoorne. Fernando Alonso has two.

In contrast Mercedes have opted for six sets of the purple tyres with Lewis Hamilton taking as many as four soft tyres, three supersofts, to Valtteri Bottas’ three softs and four supersofts.

Ferrari have gone with seven sets of the ultras, three supersofts and three softs.
