Renault hit the front of the launch queue

Renault have joined Mercedes, Ferrari and Force India in revealing the launch date of their 2017 car, which will take place on February 21.

The Enstone based team will take the covers off the RS16’s successor the day prior to Force India’s reveal having jumped the queue by announcing the earliest launch date yet.

Last season Renault finished the championship in ninth place with only eight points on the board following the late 2015 takeover of the Lotus F1 team.

This year Jolyon Palmer is hoping that the building blocks put in place last season will see himself and new team-mate Nico Hulkenberg reap rewards.

“I think our focus for a long time was on the 2017 car already, while we’ve got good investment in the team, and we’ve still got great people in the team to do a good job,” said the Brit.

“Hopefully we’ll be the team that makes the biggest step.”
