Ricciardo: Red Bull will remain third

Although Daniel Ricciardo is hoping Red Bull’s updates narrow the deficit to Mercedes and Ferrari, he admits Red Bull will remain third.

After last year’s runner-up result, Red Bull have hoped that this year’s new aerodynamic regulations would see them close the gap to Mercedes.

Instead they’ve fallen to third, losing out to Ferrari as well.

Red Bull are planning to introduce a host of new updates for their RB13 at this weekend’s Spanish GP, however, Ricciardo fears any progress they make will be negated by the leading duo’s updates.

“We still have to expect to be where we are,” he told reporters ahead of the Spanish GP.

“Hopefully closer but I don’t think we can expect to come out and win.

“We want to, would like to, but we can’t really expect it because, look, even if the update gives us a second we know that Mercedes and Ferrari are not going to come here with nothing.

“Hopefully the target is to at least close the gap and then let’s see. Sure we want to win but we should not expect it before we have driven the car.”
