‘Rosberg deal will be fixed very soon’

Niki Lauda is convinced Mercedes will have Nico Rosberg locked into a new contract “very soon.”

The Championship leader is out of contract at the end of this season and has reportedly been flirting with Ferrari over a 2017 drive.

However, according to Lauda who is a non-executive chairman at Mercedes, it is only a matter of time before Rosberg re-signs with the Brackley squad.

“I’m sure we want to keep Nico, and Nico wants to stay,” Lauda told Sky Sports News HQ. “I don’t see any issues at all and this will be fixed very soon.

“We have to decide it in the next three weeks. This is my point of view, to let him know that we all stick together for the next couple of years.

“This is my suggestion, but I’m only the chairman. Toto [Wolff] will handle it and I’ll watch it.”

Rosberg, who won four of this season’s first grands prix, is leading the World title race on 100 points, 39 ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.
