Rosberg: I know I was lucky

Although "very, very happy" with his Monaco GP victory, Nico Rosberg admits he got "lucky" on Sunday.

The Mercedes driver was on course to finish second at the Monte Carlo street circuit before the Safety Car was deployed on lap 64.

With race leader Lewis Hamilton the only one of the leading trio to pit, Rosberg was elevated to second.

It was a position he would hold through to the line, claiming his third successive Monaco GP win.

"I'm very, very happy but I know it was a lot of luck," he stated.

"Lewis drove brilliantly and he would have deserved the win for sure.

"That's the way it is in racing.

"I'm extremely happy and will make the most of it.

Asked about the pitstop call that cost his team-mate the victory, Rosberg said: "I have no idea, sorry.

"It is very difficult to judge what decisions are being made.

"We didn't discuss pitting at the end."

He later added: "I Know that I got lucky.

"I need to enjoy the moment and work hard because I know Lewis was a little bit stronger this weekend."

The 25 points mean that although Rosberg remains second in the Championship he is now just 10 behind Hamilton.
