Rosberg ‘wasn’t quick enough’

Nico Rosberg concedes he did not have the pace to challenge Red Bull for the Monaco GP pole as Mercedes fell short on Saturday.

On an afternoon where both Rosberg and team-mate Lewis Hamilton suffered fuel pressure issues, Daniel Ricciardo stormed to his first F1 pole position.

He posted a 1:13.622 while triple Monaco winner Rosberg was 0.169s slower.

It was the first time since 2012 that Mercedes did not have a driver on pole position in Monte Carlo.

Rosberg says it was just because they were lacking in pace.

Asked where it went wrong in qualifying, he said: “I don’t think it went away from me, it never was with me.

“Daniel was quick today and they got a well deserved pole and that’s it.

“I wasn’t quick enough.”
