Sainz agrees with Hamilton’s tactis

Just like his former team-mate Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz also had no problem with the way Lewis Hamilton went about defending his World Championship against Nico Rosberg.

During the final Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton slowed down the pace of the race in the hopes of Verstappen and Vettel overtaking Rosberg.

The tactic didn’t work as the German managed to hold his P2 and go onto win his first ever World Championship.

The Spaniard, though, understood Hamilton’s position and said he would have done the same.

“I would do it,” Sainz admitted.

“When you are a winner and you want to win a world title, you always have to try everything you can – always inside the rules, like he did.

“In the end he did nothing outside of the rules, so I support Lewis’s decision.

“To do what he did even more exaggerated could have been a bit too much, but I think he did exactly what he needed to do, also to put a bit of pressure on Nico and to see how he could handle it.”
