Carlos Sainz believes his performances in the first five races of the season has showed that "Red Bull was right" to hand him a seat at STR.
The Red Bull bosses' decision to pair 17-year-old Max Verstappen with 20-year-old Sainz at Toro Rosso this year raised a few eyebrows as it is the youngest driver line-up in F1 history.
While Verstappen has made plenty of headlines as F1's youngest racer, Sainz has quietly gone about his business and he picked up points in three of his five races to date.
The Spaniard says he has vindicated Red Bull's decision to promote him to a 2015 Formula 1 grid.
"It feels great – exactly like I was planning and imagining to do when the season started," he is quoted as saying by Crash.net. "They have chosen me for F1 and Toro Rosso, but I still see people have doubts, so it is my time to show everyone that Red Bull was right.
"After these first five races, I finally start to feel more comfortable in F1. It is still only the fifth race and there is a long way to go, but at least it has been a positive start."
