Sainz re-signs with Toro Rosso

Toro Rosso have put to rest rumours linking Carlos Sainz to Ferrari having taken up their option on the Spaniard for 2017.
Sainz has put in a strong run of results this season, leading to speculation that he had caught the attention of Ferrari.
The Spaniard, who was passed over for a Red Bull race-seat when the team opted to promote from within when looking for a replacement for Daniil Kvyat, was facing either a move away from the Red Bull family or a third season with Toro Rosso.
Sainz has gone for the latter.
Red Bull have exercised their option on the 21-year-old, who will continue with Toro Rosso in 2017.
“We are very happy that Carlos continues with us, because he has shown a very good performance since he is with Scuderia Toro Rosso and I am convinced that he will be very competitive and strong in 2017 as well,” said STR team boss Franz Tost.
“I am very much looking forward to next season as I am sure that Carlos will bring home very good results.”
