Schumi medical records offered for sale

Michael Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm has warned that any publication of the medical details pertaining to his injuries and treatment will be met with criminal charges, after it was revealed on Monday that files containing such “confidential” details are being offered for sale.

The 45-year-old Schumacher was placed in a medical coma following a skiing accident in December last year, but left the Grenoble hospital where he was being treated last week to continue his rehabilitation in a more private setting in Switzerland.

Kehm admitted that it wasn’t clear whether the documents were genuine or counterfeit, but added that they were “clearly stolen”, and while it isn’t obvious what kind of data the document contains, any of Schumacher’s medical records are “confidential files”.

“For several days stolen documents and data are being offered for sale. The offerer claims them to be the medical file of Michael Schumacher,” Kehm said in a statement to the media.

“We cannot judge if these documents are authentic. However, the documents are clearly stolen. The theft has been reported.

“We expressly advise that both the purchase and the publication of such documents and data is forbidden. The contents of any medical files are totally private and confidential and must not be made available to the public.

“We will therefore, in every single case, press for criminal charges and damages against any publication of the content or reference to the medical file.”
