Michael Schumacher admits disappointment in his qualifying performances and reveals that Nico Rosberg is very strong in this aspect.
While Schumacher often exhibits better race pace than his team-mate, Rosberg consistently out-qualifies his countryman, with Schumacher starting further up the grid on only one occasion this season.
“You’re right, it looks at me in the race usually looks better than in qualifying,” Schumacher said in a fan Q&A with Auto motor und sport.
“There are many reasons that would be very complicated to explain, here and there had also been technical problems sometimes. But Nico is really one of the best qualifier in the field, his performance here is impressive,” he added.
Asked how he managed to remain upbeat in post-qualifying interviews in Hungary having once again finished behind Rosberg, Schumacher responded:
“Well, of course I’m disappointed if my qualifying performance is not up to my expectations,” he said.
“But this is just a snapshot. It does not change the fact that I am not deterred by setbacks and failures and don’t stop them from continuing to work towards our goal.
“I am firmly convinced that Mercedes will once again secure victories and be a World Championship contender,” he added.
