Todt: Schumacher’s still fighting

Michael Schumacher is "still fighting" to recover from the injuries he suffered in a skiing accident, according to close family friend Jean Todt.

The seven-time World Champion sustained a severe head injury when he fell while skiing in the French Alps in December 2013.

22 months later little is known about the German's conditions as his family have kept it private.

Todt, though, has revealed that Schumacher continues to fight.

The FIA President said: "Michael is a close friend, his family is very close to me, I am very close to them as well.

"I see Michael very often, and Michael is still fighting. We must keep him fighting for the family."

The Frenchman added that Lewis Hamilton's third World title, which he secured last Sunday with his 43rd career win, was a reminder of what Schumacher with his seven World titles and 91 race wins achieved in F1.

"It was interesting last week after Lewis won the title for third time," he said.

"You saw the figures [referring to Schumacher's seven championships]. I was very proud of what Michael achieved. Sometimes you tend to forget what he did."
