Verstappen on the yellow kerbs

Dutch youngster Max Verstappen criticised the yellow kerbs on the Red Bull Ring ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.

During FP1, Verstappen hit the yellow kerb and lost a piece of his front wing plate. Later in the same session he hit the kerb again in Turn 5, destroying his steering section and suspension in the front of the car.

The incident also meant that he would lose out on precious minutes in FP2, where the rain halted the drivers progress for a good amount of time.

However, despite his treacherous Friday, the Red Bull driver added that at least the car showed positive signs during the wet weather and is hoping for a strong qualifier on Saturday.

“I just ran out of space really, I touched the kerbs and they destroyed the tripod so I couldn’t turn any more,” Verstappen said.

“I didn’t expect them to be that hard for the car. It destroyed a little bit of the front wing, I couldn’t continue and then lost a few minutes into FP2 as well because of it. But in the end we have a good car in the wet.

“The kerbs are very high, that’s my conclusion! And hard for the car. But of course after that I lost a bit of time because of the damage, but I think the car is in good shape.

“I think we are a little bit better than expected, so not a bad day.”
