Mark Webber has become the latest driver to be hit with a grid penalty at Hockenheim for a gearbox change.
Red Bull were forced to change the Australian’s gearbox late Friday night after discovering a problem in the wake of FP2.
As such, Webber, who won the last race in Britain, has incurred an automatic five-place penalty for the German GP grid.
“(Webber) did finish the last race in Silverstone and this change was before the five consecutive events expired,” said the FIA technical delegate in a statement.
“Therefore this does not comply with… the Formula One sporting regulations.”
Red Bull also broke curfew changing Webber’s gearbox, however, it was the first time this season that the team had done so. Each team starts the season with four curfew exemptions.
