Wehrlein gets Mercedes testing seat

Manor driver Pascal Wehrlein received a surprised call up to Mercedes as the final day of in-season testing gets underway at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

It was believed that Renault driver Esteban Ocon would be in the Silver Arrows seat for the final testing day but in a surprise turn of events, it was revealed to be Wehrlein instead.

Mercedes explained that they wanted someone who has F1 race experience so they can get the best out of the car and gain valuable data.

The young German is currently a reserve driver for Mercedes but was loaned out to Manor for the remainder of the season in exchange for Mercedes’ wind tunnel
