Pascal Wehrlein is reportedly one of several drivers in the running to become a Toro Rosso driver next season.

With Carlos Sainz off to Renault at the end of this year, Toro Rosso are definitely seeking one new race driver.

However, as the team has yet to confirm Daniil Kvyat for next season, it could be two.

While the team is evaluating Pierre Gasly in the Malaysian and Japanese races, putting him in the STR in Kvyat’s place, the Frenchman is not the only candidate.

According to rumours in the Suzuka paddock, Sauber driver Wehrlein is also in the running.

The German is expected to lose his Sauber seat at the end of this season as the team instead bloods Ferrari youngsters.

And while some reports suggested he could be off to Williams, as the team needs a driver 25 or older, Wehrlein is out of contension for that seat.

He could instead head to Toro Rosso, so says the rumour mill.
